About The Devonshire Arms
You could say, and we often do, that traditional country pubs are plentiful (2 a penny) in this neck of the woods and offer similar food and drink. But are they all created equal - we think not! We try to be better everyday.
We love food and enjoy relaxing with friends and family over a meal - obviously with a few drinks included - a meal or drink out is about sharing time with friends and family, cementing relationships and building new ones - and what better place than in the local pub.
A roaring fire, the footie on the TV, a quiet corner whatever takes your fancy.
Take great ingredients, do as little as possible with them and marry them with other ingredients that compliment and enhance their flavours - creating dishes that make you happy and perhaps surprise you a little.
Excellent Ales and Lagers are 1.01 for a pub so enter my magnificent father in law - 82 years young - is responsible for showing us all how to care for and serve amazing beer.
I love wine - but why can I only have cheaper wines by the glass and at a premium to the bottle price?
Why shouldn't I be able to enjoy a glass of Amerone, Merlot or Chateau Neuf while my wife enjoys a glass of Pinot Grigio, Sancere or Veuve?
We also own The Bridge Inn and that is a little different but both are built on the same ethos - try and ensure that everyone of our guests leaves with fond memories
Hope to see you soon.

We were only in Baslow for 5 days but enjoyed our first dinner here so much we returned later in the week. The pub and restaurant area have been refurbished with considerable style and the food matched that. Most memorable choices from the menu included prawn cocktail, ham hock, fish cakes, roast chicken, sausages and mash and sweet potato and spinach curry.

We called in during a brisk walk on a sunday lunch time, the feel was warm, friendly and the smell of sunday lunch was beautiful -Unfortunately we had booked an evening meal at another venue so could not stay for lunch, but it was so very tempting and made us feel really hungry! (We will be returning to try it) As the waitress bought the lunches to their tables I have to say they not only smelt nice, they looked lovely too. We ordered our drinks and sat in the comfortable sofa, where some of the locals chatted to us and made us feel realy welcome. My tipple is gin and tonic, the choice of gin was very good and we enjoyed a very warm afternoon people watching and chilling.
During our recent stay in the Hope Valley, we ate at the Devonshire Arms in Baslow on four out of our six evenings. We kept returning there because the food was excellent and the service exceptional. We tried the steak and ale pie, Thai curry, fish and chips and burger and chips (on separate nights!). All were excellent. Then came the best sticky toffee pudding (with butterscotch sauce and ice cream) that we’ve ever had. The bar staff in general were extremely welcoming and Alice in particular was outstanding. She remembered our drinks order following on from our first visit and was always attentive and friendly during meal service. This doesn’t generally happen in our experience and it made our evenings special.
